Continued Support to Foster Families: Training Manual “Family Tailored to the Child”

As part of the PRO—Local Governance for People and Nature programme, a training manual for prospective foster carers titled "Family Tailored to the Child” has been published.

The “PRO – Local Governance for People and Nature” Programme is dedicated to strengthening the capacities of local communities to provide quality services that directly contribute to the well-being of children and families. The programme focuses on advancing social inclusion and protecting the most vulnerable through the development of accessible and sustainable services at the local level.

In line with these goals, a training manual for prospective foster carers titled “A Family Tailored to the Child” has been developed. The manual represents an important resource for improving the system of alternative care for children.

The manual serves as an essential resource for conducting the foundational training for foster care candidates. Through a unified narrative by professionals and foster carers, it encourages reflection on current practices and focuses on modern concepts of child development and upbringing, as well as advancing their protection.

Within the PRO—Local Governance for People and Nature programme, jointly implemented by the United Nations agencies in Serbia – UNOPS, UNICEF, UNFPA, and UNEP, in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and with financial support from the Swiss Government, a comprehensive Training Programme for Professionals and Foster Care Candidates titled “Family Tailored to the Child—Alternative Care for Children Not Living with Biological Families” has also been developed.

This initiative highlights the importance of empowering foster carers with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children in need, ensuring their well-being and future success.
