Training Sessions Strengthen Foster Families in Valjevo and Loznica

To enhance the competencies of foster families and ensure quality care for children, two training sessions were held in Valjevo and Loznica.

The first training, “A Family Tailored to the Child – Alternative Care for Children Who Do Not Live with Their Biological Family”, took place from 24 January to 20 February 2025 in Valjevo.

It was designed to support ten new foster families from Valjevo, Ub, and Mionica in developing essential knowledge and skills for quality foster care. Participants learned about the role and competencies of foster carers, child development in foster care, recognising and meeting the child’s needs, and collaborating with professionals and institutions.

Attendees highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences with other foster carers and the crucial role of professional support in overcoming challenges.

The second training, “Emergency Foster Care”, was held on 25 February 2025 in Loznica and focused on ten experienced foster families. The session aimed to strengthen their knowledge and skills in providing urgent care for children in crisis situations who require immediate placement for protection and well-being.

During the training, foster carers learned about best practices in supporting children in emergency situations, ensuring their best interests are met while recognising and addressing their needs.

The training sessions were conducted as part of the “PRO – Local Governance for People and Nature” program, jointly implemented by UNOPS, UNICEF, UNFPA, and UNEP, in partnership with the Government of Serbia and with financial support from the Government of Switzerland.
