Supporting implementation of Environmental Protection Projects

The UN Joint Programme “PRO - Local Governance for People and Nature“ with the support of the Government of Switzerland, published the Call for Proposals for support to local self-governments in the implementation of environmental protection projects.

The Call is open until 24 January 2025, the total budget is USD 300,000, while the maximum amount per project is USD 15,000. 96 local self-governments that are covered by program support have the right to apply for support.

A mandatory condition for support is a partnership between the local self-government and a civil society organization that has experience in implementing projects and activities aimed at environmental protection, as well as the inclusion of capacity-building activities of relevant actors in the project.

The primary objective of this intervention is to improve the operational capacity of local self-governments and civil society organizations to actively deal with environmental protection issues in the community, through participatory and inclusive approaches, while strengthening responsibility in local decision-making processes.

Areas of support include the implementation of local policies and measures, support for nature-based initiatives, greater transparency and public participation in decision-making, promotional campaigns and capacity building, as well as the introduction of innovative practices.

Additional information on the terms, application process, and selection criteria are available at the Public Calls section of the Programme website.

The Programme “PRO - Local Governance for People and Nature” is jointly implemented by United Nations agencies in Serbia - UNOPS, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNEP, in cooperation with the Serbian Government, and with financial support of the Government of Switzerland.
