Training for Implementing Gender Responsive Governance and Budgeting in Practice
Why gender responsive governance is good governance, how the gender perspective is introduced into public policies, what are the strengths and what are the challenges in the work of employees, were some of the topics discussed by representatives of local self-governments, the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and the Ministry of Environmental Protection during the three-day training.
"The topic of gender responsive governance is very important. Attending such a training shows us the shortcomings in the approach to marginalized groups, so that we can apply the knowledge we acquire and respect the needs of all our citizens", said Jasna Vuković from the municipality of Topola.
The training is part of the support that the Programme provides to local self-governments through empowering local decision-makers to develop and support implementation of the engendered policies at the local level. This will be acheived through a comprehensive training programme covering gender governance related topics in public affairs, budgeting, public sector management and public policymaking in social protection, environmental protection and climate change, as well as in inclusive public services delivery.
"These are opportunities to learn something new. It is important that we all participate in policy making and governance. We heard different experiences, strengths, weaknesses, but also good practices that we can adopt and apply in our community", said Amelija Kostadinović from Pirot.
With the support of the Programme, the implementation of gender responsive governance and budgeting will be improved in the following local self-governments: Babušnica, Bela Palanka, Vrnjačka Banja, Dimitrovgrad, Zaječar, Knić, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Kruševac, Ljubovija, Nova Varoš, Pirot, Raška, Sokobanja, Topola and Ćuprija.
The Programme "PRO - Local Governance for People and Nature" is jointly implemented by the United Nations agencies in Serbia - UNOPS, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNEP, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and with the financial support of the Government of Switzerland.
